1. Sony ZV-1 – Best Vlogging Camera with a Flip Screen

In 2024, vlogging is one of the favorite genres that turn a hobby into a full-time job on many social media platforms.

The Sony ZV-1 attempts to fill the gap between what can be done with your smartphone and what any other expensive camera can produce.

Sony has introduced a modified and upgraded version of its own RX 100 into Sony ZV-1 by focusing more on designing a camera that focuses more on taking videos than taking still photographs.

The best thing is that SONY ZV-1 has all the needed vlogger-specific features. In other words, SONY RX 100 VII hardware has been incorporated into SONY ZV-1 and optimized for 100% of vlogging.

Though they have some similar features, the ZV-1 is created with more easy-to-use settings like Face Priority Autoexposure, Background Defocus and Product Showcase which are missing from the RX100 VII.

In general, according to features and price, this Sony camera is a masterpiece for daily vloggers.

Main Features:

  • SONY ZV-1 has a lightweight body, flip out screen, best-in-class autofocus, and superb image and video quality.
  • It has 20.1 megapixels, 1-inch sensor 20-70mm F/1.8- 2.8mm. This means it is as versatile as a mirrorless camera. Still, it makes it easier for vloggers to use ZV-1 as an upgrade tool for smartphone users.
  • The SONY camera screen articulates, making it very ideal for vloggers. The side hinge of the camera makes it possible to have you flip the screen around without making any obstruction for you when you decide to put on an external mic. The vari-angle pivot attached to its screen makes it suitable for vertical video shooting. The screen is polarized as well for better daylight. ZV-1 has a built-in microphone with a “dead-cat” muffler that reduces wind noises. You can also choose to plug in your microphone in the external mic port or any hotshoe microphone.
  • ZV-1 has new features called “product showcase,” emphasizing that this camera is meant for vlogging. This feature ensures the focus on a product instead of on the face of the vlogger.
  • Another exciting feature is its background defocus, meaning the aperture widens, yielding your shot to have soft bokeh background. It works perfectly in an outdoor setting because it has a built-in neutral density filter.
  • ZV-1 has a plastic body that makes it a downside for vloggers who want to use their cameras for superb action and shooting during extreme weather conditions like a storm.
  • In terms of battery, charging can be done via micro-USB but can only last for an hour of shooting videos.

Why Do Vloggers Need a Flip Screen for Vlogging?

First of all, you may wonder why we suggest vlogging cameras that all have flip screens.

Imagine the situation:

You filmed a good piece of your vlog, you poured your heart out, maybe dropped some sick jokes, or perhaps you shot a one of a kind performance. Either way, you are excited, you absolutely can’t wait for your viewers to see what you’ve got, and you think that it might even be the next big thing!

And then, when you finally sit down to edit your video, you realize that all of your material is out of focus or that a chunk of your face is completely out of the frame.

Yeah, not the best feeling in the world, is it?

This should basically answer your question on why you need that flip screen. Having that constant feedback that a flip screen provides can save you from a lot of trouble.

At all times, you can clearly see if you are positioned how you want, if the lighting is good, and if the video is well focused, meaning that you can easily predict how your final video will look like.

While using a vlogging camera with flip screen, you can easily work on making the video turn out exactly like you want it to, instead of just hoping for the best to happen.

In addition to that, a camera with a flip screen grants its user more freedom of movement, meaning that you will feel more comfortable while filming when walking or doing other kinds of activities.

Flip Screen Importance:
The below-mentioned points would make it clear why vlogging cameras with flip screens are important for vloggers:
  • You can easily flip the screen around, which gives you a perfect angle of the frame and helps you adjust accordingly.
  • It allows you to keep track of your movements and visibility in the camera frame.
  • You can see for yourself whether your movement is getting you out of the frame or not.
  • Basically, you are not confined to staying in one place to record; rather, you can move around and film as per your requirements.

Conclusion

That was the list of the best vlogging cameras with a flip screen in 2024. In our editors’ humble opinion, of course.

Now it is up to you to weigh all the pros and cons, consider all the features offered, and single out the ones you must have in your perfect camera.

I know the process of selecting a camera can often turn into a long, tiring, and overwhelming experience, especially if you are just starting out.

Pay attention to your budget and experience level of vlogging. We have clearly described every camera and hope this article helped you get an idea of what camera could work the best for you and the type of content you create.

Good luck with your vlogging adventure!
